Two Australian men have been charged in the case of the self-proclaimed "Big Bird Bandits."

Tasman Binder, 22, and Cody Milne, 26, appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court after allegedly stealing a $160,000 Big Bird costume from the Sesame Street Circus Spectacular three months ago.

The costume in question was then returned a few days later with a note, stuffed into the beak, apologizing for being "such a big birden."

The note continued, "We had no idea what we were doing, or what our actions would cause. We were just having a rough time and were trying to cheer ourselves up. We had a great time with Mr. Bird. He's a great guy and no harm came to our friend."

It was signed "The Big Bird Bandits."

The costume had been flown into Australia from New York for the show.

Binder and Milne have been charged with theft and unlawfully being on premises. They will appear again in court in November.
