PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — LeBron James will play his first game with the Philadelphia 76ers on the NBA’s opening night against champion New York Knicks.

The Oct. 20 game at Madison Square Garden will be part of a tripleheader, when the Knicks raise a banner to celebrate their first championship since 1973, and James kicks off the final stop in his career.

This is part of a tripleheader that day. The Boston Celtics take on the Detroit Pistons at 3 p.m., and the Oklahoma City Thunder will face the San Antonio Spurs at 9:30 p.m. The Sixers-Knicks game is at 7 p.m.

Later in the season, James will return to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas, after Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs return to New York for an NBA Finals rematch to open a five-game schedule.

The NBA unveiled those games Tuesday morning. The full schedule will be released Thursday.
