Who says players don't listen to the noise from fans and the media?
It was a big moment for the famous 94WIP caller "Chuck from Mount Airy," when Phillies slugger Bryce Harper called him out by name after Tuesday night's win.
"I was driving in today and I was listening to WIP today, like I do a lot in the 2 o'clock hour," Harper said. "A guy named Chuck called in. ... I walked in the training room and I was like, 'I'm going to go deep tonight for Chuck!' That guy had me fired up, man."
Harper hit his ninth homer of the month that game, and the Phils beat the Los Angeles Angels 12-7.
Chuck recalls having a drink when his friends when he received a call from WIP afternoon show producer Jack Fritz. "'Bryce Harper just shouted you out, and us, the afternoon show.' I said, 'You're freaking kidding, right?' and he said, 'No, I'm not, I'm dead serious.'"
He says it was unbelievable to hear a star of Harper's magnitude acknowledging him. "It's not something you hear regularly ... that's what makes Bryce Harper unique," he said. "I felt validated, I felt happy and excited. I couldn't sleep."
"Bryce Harper, listen man, before I die I am going to shake that man's hand one day," Chuck said. "He's the best ever."
