PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Council Rock Newtown Little League in Bucks County is headed to South Williamsport after winning the Mid-Atlantic Championship Friday afternoon.

The 12-year-old all-star team saw off the team representing Washington, D.C. in the regional championship 5-1 after two rain delays.

With the win, Council Rock Newtown's streak extends to 18 for the summer, the longest of any team still playing in the country.

The trip to Williamsport is also the Bucks County Little League's second in its history. The first team to make it was back in 2005.

It is also the second time in two years a Philly-local team has made it all the way to Williamsport. Last year, it was a team from Media.

Council Rock Newtown begins its World Series journey as Mid-Atlantic reps Thursday against Southwest winner Texas West.
