PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Doug Pederson's status as Eagles head coach may be up in the air.

A report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen says a change may still happen if owner Jeffrey Lurie is not confident about the vision Doug Pederson has of the team going forward. The two are scheduled to meet this week.

Pederson just completed his fifth season as head coach of the Eagles. After leading the team to a Super Bowl title in his second year, he led the Eagles to the playoffs in 2018 and 2019.

However, 2020 was a difficult year for Pederson and the Eagles, who finished 4-11-1. One of the biggest issues was the digression and benching of quarterback Carson Wentz.

Pederson was also criticized across the country for inserting third-string quarterback Nate Sudfeld in the regular season finale in a game which affected the outcome of the NFC title. Washington won the game and the division, which meant the Giants missed out on a chance at the postseason. Several New York players were among those who openly questioned why a third-string quarterback would enter a three-point game in the fourth quarter.

If Lurie does decide to make a change, it would be the seventh head coaching vacancy in the NFL this season. The six other teams have already begun interviewing head coaching candidates.

There has been no comment from the Eagles regarding the report.
