PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It may be disorienting, while driving past Lincoln Financial Field, to see Carson Wentz staring back from an enormous banner clinging to the outside of the stadium.
The former Eagles quarterback has been on the Indianapolis Colts for several months now. Are we stuck in a time warp?
No need to worry. An Eagles spokesperson has confirmed that a new image is being produced to replace Wentz later this month, before the Eagles begin training camp.
Wentz was in the news this week for telling Valley News Live — KVLY-TV, an NBC affiliate in North Dakota — that he was excited to have a fresh start in Indianapolis after his unhappy ending in Philadelphia.
He had returned to his home state for an AO1 Foundation event and explained that, after gaining a different perspective last season, "I really feel like I have a new passion for the game. I've been high, I've been injured, I've been now benched, I've been traded. I've kind of seen a lot in five years. And so, whatever the game throws at me, I'm ready. And it's kinda given me a new level of excitement for football."
Meanwhile, we don't know anything specific about what will replace Wentz's image — but WIP host and former Eagles linebacker Ike Reese made a very good suggestion Monday afternoon on the radio.
He says it should be an image of Brandon Graham's epic strip sack of Tom Brady in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LII.
"That ball needs to be popped out. Like we know it was a fumble there, and then I'd put the Super Bowl LII trophy in the background of that. Like that's what you put on the side of the stadium," he said. "And it wasn't until that play and Jake Elliott kicked that field goal that we all realized we're about to win the frickin' Super Bowl."
Reese's co-host, Jon Marks, said it should be an image of former Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles.
Reese disagreed.
Foles might be a tougher sell, for a number of reasons. First, he'd be replacing a fellow former Eagles quarterback, which is what some fans may argue should have happened full-time anyway. Second, Foles is currently playing for the Chicago Bears. Third — how awkward, if were to be the "Philly Philly" image of him and recently fired head coach Doug Pederson.
We will all have to stay tuned to see what happens next.
