Jason and Travis' dad has dreamed of a 'Kelce Bowl' since the 2013 draft

That's when Eagles head coach Chip Kelly passed on Travis, he says

PHILADELPHIA (94WIP SportsRadio) — Ed Kelce, father of Eagles center Jason and Chiefs tight end Travis, joined Angelo Cataldi on Friday's 94WIP Morning Show to talk about Sunday's Super Bowl LVII. Ed said this showdown is something he's been looking forward to for some time.

"It's something I started dreaming about in 2013, when [Eagles head coach Chip Kelly] passed on Travis, and Travis ended up getting drafted by [Chiefs head coach Andy Reid]," Ed Kelce said on Friday. "The thought then was: 'Boy, maybe one of these days I can see the two of them in the Super Bowl.'"

2013 was both Kelly's and Reids' first season as head coach of their respective teams. The Chiefs drafted Travis in the third round, and the Eagles picked up tight end Zach Ertz in the second.

"As this season went along," Ed continued, "particularly as we got a little bit further into the season — you know, around Thanksgiving or so — I thought, 'Phew, this could really happen!' And lo and behold, despite injuries to [Patrick] Mahomes and injuries to Jalen [Hurts], here we are."

Ertz, of course, went on to have an amazing tenure with the Eagles and is currently the franchise leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns as a tight end. However, it's hard not to think about Travis and Kelce both being lifelong Eagles after that story.
