PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Who would have ever thought you could take Philadelphia Sports as a high school elective?
At the Woodlynde School in Strafford, Pennsylvania, a private school for college-bound students with learning differences, you can. And that’s in large part due to 29-year-old English and writing teacher Jack Dunleavy, who also coaches basketball and track and field at the school.
“They said, ‘Jack, all you do is talk about the Eagles. You might as well put this to some use here,’” Dunleavy said with a chuckle.
Dunleavy is a lifelong fan with public service in his blood. And he incorporates his passions into lessons, whether it be on the field or in the classroom, even using “Jalen Hurts-isms” with his players.
Dunleavy says such practices help create an environment of camaraderie and connection.
