PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Jalen Hurts is back from the stomach illness that made him a late scratch from the Eagles' embarrassing 35-0 preseason loss to the New England Patriots last week.

Head coach Nick Sirianni said Hurts has been "resting his body, as you would with any illness, and getting himself back."

"He went through walk-through yesterday," said Sirianni. "Recovering his body, and obviously, he was out there and slinging it around today at practice."

If the threat of slow-moving storm Henri wasn't in the picture, thousands of Eagles fans would have seen Hurts sling the football around in person. It was supposed to be the team's second and final public practice in South Philadelphia.

So, how often can fans expect to see Hurts before the Sept. 12 opener at the Atlanta Falcons?

The Eagles have two joint practices this week in North Jersey with the New York Jets before their preseason finale Friday night at MetLife Stadium. Then, about two weeks until Week 1.

Sirianni reiterated he doesn't want to give a specific amount that Hurts and other starters will or won't play Friday night, as things can change.

"We got a great practice today, a very high-energy, competitive practice today in our indoor facility," Sirianni continued. "Then we're gonna get two really good practices against the Jets. So, that's just something we're gonna continue to evaluate.

"I'd hate to give you an answer and then it not play out, so that's something that's under constant evaluation. We're gonna see how the work goes against the Jets and make a decision after that."

Hurts and a couple of the likely starters at playmaking positions have limited NFL experience overall, as well as playing together. So far, Hurts has only 10 plays in a live game with tackling this preseason.

"We wanna get better every day," Sirianni said of Hurts and his teammates, "and our success is not on, 'Hey, did we win this practice here?' 'Did we get better today?' is really our mindset. So, we look at it as that we have three more weeks to get ready for that first game."
