PHILADELPHIA (94WIP SportsRadio) — At a press conference Sunday, when addressing the Cowboys' agreement to a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for third-year quarterback Trey Lance, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones implied Dallas wanted to draft Jalen Hurts in 2020.

"Two years ago we were looking at Philadelphia's quarterback — not going to call any names," Jones said. "We were looking at him. Had he fallen to us there, we would have drafted him."

Hurts was the Eagles' second-round pick in 2020, No. 53 overall. The Cowboys took cornerback Trevon Diggs with their 51st overall selection and then did not pick again until No. 82 when they took defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.

The Eagles' selection of Hurts in round two was a controversial one at the time, as they had just given Carson Wentz a big contract to be the franchise quarterback, it seemed at the time.

A few years later, and now Hurts is one of the league's most promising young quarterbacks, and Wentz is not currently on an NFL roster.

The Cowboys acquired former No. 3 overall pick in Lance from the 49ers for a fourth-round pick to backup Dak Prescott.
