PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The La Salle University women's basketball team will be back in action on Friday night with an Atlantic 10 home game against Saint Louis.

The Explorers have won four of their last five games to improve to 9-8 (5-5 in A-10). They have picked up some really impressive victories this season, including knocking off city rivals Saint Joseph's and Drexel.

"We know we're in a position now where, if we play our best, we can beat anybody," La Salle head coach Mountain MacGillivray said. "But we also know we don't have a very big margin for error, where I think some other teams in our league can not play great and still come away with a win."

At the end of last season, MacGillivray said defense was a real strength for his team, and he anticipated the same this year. But early on, the Explorers struggled to get stops.

"But sure enough as this young team has kind off grown up and kind of taken hold of what we're doing and taken ownership of the roles of each of them in our half-court defense, our defense has gotten back to where we were last year, so I'm really pleased with that," he said.

For the season, La Salle is holding opponents to 65 points per game. Over the last five games, the Explorers are allowing just 59 points a night.

On offense, the Explorers are being paced by sophomore guard Claire Jacobs and her 15.2 points per game.

La Salle's game with Saint Louis is slated for a 6 p.m. start on Friday at Gola Arena.
