The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Kellen Moore to be their new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and first reported by 94WIP's Howard Eskin on Saturday night.
Moore, 35, was the Dallas Cowboys' offensive coordinator from 2019-2022 and was the Los Angeles Chargers' OC last season.
Here are 5 things about Moore:
1. Under center (Eliot Shorr-Parks)
Kellen Moore has put his QBs under center more than the Eagles have with Hurts.
Here are passing attempts from under center, per PFR:
-Herbert, 2023: 57
-Prescott, 2022: 95
-Hurts, 2023: 20
The RBs under Moore also ran it more from under center than Eagles RBs did as opposed to shotgun:
Ekler, 2023: 83
Elliott, 2022: 149
Swift, 2023: 47
2. The Chargers were 8th in the NFL in motion last season (@SethWalder)
3. Cowboys were No. 1 in success rate against the Blitz in 2022 under Moore (Zach Berman)
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear during this week's press conference that offensive coordinator Brian Johnson will not be returning and the new offensive coordinator will bring in his own offense, fresh ideas and be the play caller. Sirianni will continue to lead as a motivator and establishing the team's culture and identity.
After a dominant offensive 2022 season under offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who is now the head coach of the Colts, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense regressed last season.
Hurts, who was battling a knee injury he suffered earlier in the year, threw a career-high 15 interceptions and five fumbles lost.
After a 10-1 start, the Eagles lost six of their final seven games, including a blowout playoff loss at the Bucs.
The Eagles now have two new coordinators in Moore on offense and Vic Fangio on defense. Moore is the Eagles' seventh coordinator since playing in the 2023 Super Bowl vs. the Chiefs.
