Sirianni: Hurts asked me to watch tape with him during day off

The Philadelphia Eagles clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye with a win over the Giants on Sunday, so head coach Nick Sirianni gave the players and coaches the day off on Monday.

But Sirianni says that Jalen Hurts asked him if he would watch tape with him instead of taking the day off.

"Jalen said to me, 'Hey let's go watch some tape tomorrow.' I said, 'You got it.' So he wanted to work and move on. So at twelve o'clock, me, him, [offensive coordinator] Shane [Steichen], and [quarterbacks coach] Brian Johnson are going to watch some tape together in there. So a couple of us are working, but everyone else needs to have that time off."

Hurts, 24, finished his second full season as an NFL starting QB with a 14-1 record, 3,701 passing yards and 35 total touchdowns. But after missing two games and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes finishing with 5,250 passing yards (4th most in NFL history), 41 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, Hurts will likely fall short of being named this year's valuable player.

"Everything I can do to get Jalen Hurts the MVP, I'll do," Sirianni said. "Who do I need to talk to? I'll do it because to me, what he means to our football team—that's what we talk about. The most valuable player, who is the most valuable player to their football team in this league and Jalen Hurts—there is no doubt in my mind he should be the MVP of this league...Someone sent me something that he's 18-1 as a starter through his last whatever many games and that's pretty incredible. A really impressive stretch he put together."
