Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid had successful surgery on his right thumb and also had a procedure to repair his left index finger, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Embiid, 28, fought through the finger injuries, a fracture orbital bone, and a concussion during the 2022 postseason, as the Sixers were eliminated in the second-round for the fourth time in five years.
Embiid was named to the All-NBA second-team for the fourth time and second straight season, finishing runner up in the MVP race to Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, who won the league's most valuable player award in two consecutive seasons.
Embiid averaged a career and league high 30.6 points in 2021-22. He will now enters his seventh NBA season, hoping the reach for the Eastern Conference Finals while also chasing that elusive MVP award.
