PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four is Friday night in San Antonio, and it definitely has a Philadelphia-area feel to it.
The first game will feature 26-4 South Carolina, coached by Philadelphia native Dawn Staley, taking on 29-2 Stanford.
“Defensively I think we have an understanding of how we want to play them and their personnel, some concepts that they frequently use. Then for us, we’ve got to give it back to them. We do some things that are deliberate and distinctive on the offensive end and we have to try and make sure that they’re making adjustments on the defensive side of the ball," Staley said.
The second game will see 28-1 UConn take on 20-5 Arizona.
UConn, of course, is coached by Norristown’s Geno Auriemma, who says his team will have its hands full with the Wildcats.
“Arizona, I think, is a perfect example of a team that really understands who they are. They know what their identity is. They know defensively what they can do, what they want to do, how to do it. They’re aggressive. They just play so hard. They’re so competitive," Auriemma said.
The winners of Friday's games will play for the National Championship on Sunday.
