PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A report says there is a question as to whether the Philadelphia Eagles’ MVP candidate will play in Dallas on Saturday afternoon against the Birds’ archrivals.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter cites league sources saying that quarterback Jalen Hurts “is uncertain to play” against the Cowboys after a hit by Chicago Bears defensive end Trevis Gipson sprained his shoulder during Sunday’s 25-20 Eagles victory in Chicago.
Hurts got up wincing after the play, but did not come out of the game and threw a completion to DeVonta Smith on the very next play. He had 376 combined yards of total offense and ran for three touchdowns Sunday, while also throwing two interceptions.
Hurts, 24, is having arguably the greatest individual season in Eagles history. Through 14 games, Hurts has led Philadelphia to an NFL-best 13-1 record while throwing for 3,472 yards and 22 touchdowns, while rushing for another 747 and 13 touchdowns. He has thrown just five interceptions.
His backup is Gardner Minshew, who has seen limited action in three games this season, completing three of five passes for 34 yards. He started two games last year, a 33-18 win at the New York Jets and a 51-26 loss to the Cowboys in the regular season finale at Lincoln Financial Field.
If the Eagles beat the Cowboys on Saturday, they will clinch the NFC East title, the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs with home-field advantage, and a first-round bye.
