PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three of the youngest members of the Philadelphia Union have been called up to the U.S. men’s national team for a series of friendly matches starting next weekend.
Sixteen-year-old Cavan Sullivan, 18-year-old Neil Pierre, and 20-year-old Frankie Westfield will join the U.S. men’s national team for four matches:
U.S. vs. Peru on Sept. 26 in Florida
U.S. vs. Chile on Sept. 29 in Missouri
U.S. vs. Mexico on Oct. 3 in Arizona
U.S. vs. Canada on Oct. 6 in Minnesota
If Sullivan plays in any of the four games, he’ll be the second youngest U.S. men’s national player ever. His 17th birthday is Sept. 28, which falls between the first and second games of the camp.
“I never really like to think about what may come; obviously it’s something every kid works for and dreams of, but to finally get it truly did, it made my year,” Sullivan said.
Earlier this summer, before the Union’s undefeated run, Sullivan played with the Union II reserve team against Côte d’Ivoire as the African team prepared for the World Cup.
In addition to the three current players, two former Union players are also on the roster: goalkeeper Matt Freese and centerback Auston Trusty.
