PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Phillies are continuing to tinker with their bullpen.

On Friday, the Phils announced that they traded reliable left-handed reliever Matt Strahm to the Kansas City Royals for right-handed relief pitcher Jonathan Bowlan.

Strahm was under contract for one more year, reportedly worth $7.5 million.

In three seasons with the Phillies, Strahm had a 2.71 earned run average with 257 strikeouts and only 52 walks in 212.2 innings. He was an All-Star in 2024.

Strahm also recorded the final out the last time the Phils won a postseason series in 2023, yet allowed costly hits in the 2024 NLDS against the Mets and 2025 NLDS against the Dodgers — most recently, a go-ahead three-run home run off the bat of Teoscar Hernández in Game 1 against Los Angeles.
