PHILADELPHIA (SportsRadio 94WIP) — The Eagles' preseason finale against the New York Jets was delayed on Friday night due to extreme rain that caused large portions of the field to bubble up.
The kickoff was moved back to 8 p.m. from it's original start time of 7:30 p.m.
The heavy rain happened about an hour before the game, but as you can see in the below photos and videos, it caused bubbles the size of baseball pitching mounds to rise up all over the field.
The Eagles were not planning on playing any of their starters. There were concerns the wet playing surface would potentially impact the backup players that were looking for one more chance to impress the team before final cuts.
This is, of course, not the field time an Eagles preseason game was impacted due to an issue with the field.
In 2001, a preseason game between the Eagles and Baltimore Ravens was cancelled due to problems with the turf at Veterans Stadium.
