PITTSBURGH (KDKA Radio) — Hundreds of football fans descended on the streets of the city's Oakland neighborhood Sunday night to celebrate the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX win.
A mix of Philadelphia fans, back-up quarterback Kenny Pickett supporters and more flooded Forbes Avenue and other roads to cheer on the Eagles 40-22 blowout of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The neighborhood is home to the University of Pittsburgh, and a lot of students are from the eastern part of Pennsylvania — Eagles territory. Pitt students were heard chanting Pickett’s name, along with things like “Let’s go birds” and “Fly Eagles, fly.” Some were seen climbing up light poles.
With the Eagles dominating the Chiefs throughout, Pickett even got some playing time late in the game.
Pickett, a Heisman Trophy finalist with Pitt, helped the Panthers win an ACC Championship in 2021.
Then the Steelers picked him up in the first-round of the NFL Draft, but his time in Pittsburgh didn’t go as planned. The organization traded him to Philadelphia in 2024 in the offseason.
Now, Steelers fans have to face more harsh realities. Eagles fans took over the University of Pittsburgh. Kenny Pickett will get a Super Bowl ring. And Steelers like linebacker T.J. Watt are still seeking their first playoff win.
