PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Wednesday’s thrilling Phillies walk-off home run by backup catcher Garrett Stubbs was one of the more exciting calls on Phillies radio and TV in recent weeks. But there was another call off the air that had fans just as pumped.

Standing in left field seats recording on his phone was Jaxson Webster, a rising junior at Arizona State University. He’s a Philly sports fan through his father, who spent a little bit of his childhood in Media.

Webster hosts a talk show for ASU’s student station Blaze Radio and wants to get into the broadcasting business, potentially in Philadelphia.

While visiting in town with his family, practicing play-by-play during Wednesday’s 3-1 win, Webster set up Tanner Scott’s 2-2 pitch as if he was calling the game. As fate would have it, he captured Stubbs rocketing the pitch to the right-field seats.

Webster’s fandom was clearly passed down from generation to generation, and it’s already paying off.
