PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Maybe it was the presence of the world champion Milwaukee Bucks coming into Philadelphia that inspired 76ers point guard Tyrese Maxey Tuesday night.
Maybe it was the need to make up for the loss of four fellow Sixers, including leader Joel Embiid, as they entered the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocols, as well as Seth Curry's departure due to a reported left foot contusion.
Whatever the reason, Maxey had a spectacular first quarter Tuesday night as the Sixers battled the defending champs.
He scored 17 points in 11 minutes for Philadelphia as they took a 38-30 lead following one period.
Maxey made seven of his nine shots from the field, hitting three of four shots from behind the three-point arc.
Philadelphia hoped to bounce back Tuesday from a loss after winning eight of its first 10 games in the 2021-22 season, but despite Maxey's 31 points, Milwaukee won 118-109.
