PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Now that the dust has settled from the 2025 NFL Draft and the Eagles’ subsequent rookie camp is in the books, it’s time to step back and look at the short- and long-term implications of this year’s prospect haul.
No one knows the Eagles’ thinking and motivations like “unCovering the Birds” host Jeff McLane, and no one knows the draft like analyst and former Raiders general manager Mike Mayock. Listen to the two experts chop it up about first-round pick Jihaad Campbell, from the position he should play to injury concerns, as well as other key subplots that emerged from draft weekend.
What they’re saying
Mayock didn’t mince words about the state of the Eagles’ roster and general manager Howie Roseman’s job performance:
“I think he’s the best in the profession right now. They’ve been to the Super Bowl two of the last three years. I think they’ve had the best talent on the roster for at least the last three years, and even with all the changes they were forced to make this off-season, I don’t think that’s changing. I think they’re going to have the most talented roster in the league again.”
About that Roseman rumor…

During the draft, there were rumblings that general managers around the NFL were reluctant to make a deal with Roseman, either due to insecurity that Roseman would outwit them or because they didn’t want to potentially help the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles get better.
Here’s what McLane said on the podcast about the situation:
“There was a report from Pro Football Talk that the Eagles and Chargers had a trade virtually locked up that would have allowed the Eagles to move up to No. 22 for Jihaad Campbell, but for whatever reason, it fell through at the last second.
“So, it’s not like other general managers have Roseman blocked on their phones. The Eagles ultimately traded five times during the draft, but … that still didn’t stop some from claiming that GMs were actively avoiding Roseman.
“No team has been part of as many trades as the Eagles since Roseman became GM in 2010. He had some early hiccups, but he improved over time. While he has said he goes into every negotiation hoping both sides can come out thinking they ‘won’ the deal, it doesn’t always turn out that way.”
What does Mayock think? Are other GMs really sidestepping Roseman’s overtures? Listen to the latest episode of “unCovering the Birds” to find out.
