PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Union plan to start welcoming a limited number of soccer fans back to Subaru Park on Sunday when they meet up against Montreal.
Subaru Park in Chester holds 18,500 people. Given new Pennsylvania guidelines on crowd maximums, there will be no more than roughly 2,775 fans, staff and players there.
"I welcome all the fans that'll be here. It should be exciting to have them in the building, how ever many they decide is the exact right number," Union head coach Jim Curtin said.
"I think you're gonna start to see certain states be very, very loose and you're gonna start to see states stay intelligent and do the right thing and have it be calculated and measured, which I think Pennsylvania will do."
Masks will be required at all times, except when eating or drinking. Fans will get their temperature checked at the gate. Seating is spread out. Certain procedures are in place to eliminate touch points between fans and staff -- for example, no cash transactions. Season ticket holders get the first crack at tickets, then the general public.
"I think that it's just awesome for us. It just creates an atmosphere, so it's not awkward on the field sometimes," Union midfielder Brenden Aaronson said. "It's really exciting. I'm excited to have the fans there and looking forward to next game.
The Union say no tailgating will be allowed in the stadium's parking lots.
