PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Friday is opening night for the Villanova University football team. The Wildcats will host William and Mary at 6 p.m.
Villanova won 12 games and advanced to the FCS national semifinals a season ago, and the Wildcats are looking for big things again this season.
This is Villanova’s first season as a member of the Patriot League. Same goes for William and Mary. The two teams played last season, when both were still in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Wildcats won 31-24 on the Main Line.
Head coach Mark Ferrante said the league may change, but the keys to success remain the same.
“It comes down to the fundamentals and the details,” he said. “It comes down to who’s gonna be the better tackling team. It comes down to who’s gonna hang on to the ball and not turn the ball over, or who’s gonna create turnovers and get that extra possession.”
