PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Villanova's men's basketball program is on pause after a couple of staffers, including coach Jay Wright, tested positive for COVID-19.
University officials say Wright is experiencing mild symptoms and is currently in self-isolation.
"Our players have been very diligent and disciplined with all of the COVID protocols," said Wright, who confirmed he was one of two staff members that tested positive.
"My symptoms are mild, and we remain connected as a team and staff by phone and Zoom. I am grateful to our team physician, Dr. Mike Duncan, who has worked tirelessly to help guide us safely through this."
As a result, the team has put all activities on hold and the Wildcats' game at Xavier Saturday, Jan. 2, has been postponed. As of Sunday afternoon, the program said nothing had been determined about any games after that.
Villanova is 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big East. Their most recent game was las Wednesday at Marquette.
