PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Villanova University football team is in the FCS playoffs, and the Wildcats will host Eastern Kentucky in their first-round game on Saturday.

The Wildcats earned an at-large berth into the field and bring a 9-3 record into the postseason. Eastern Kentucky is 8-4. Villanova head coach Mark Ferrante has been scouting the Colonels.

“Watching them on film, they look like they have very good size on their offense and defensive line,” he said. “They look very athletic in their skill positions. They have a 1,000-yard rusher, but they also balance it out with some really good receivers and they have pretty good balance on offense as far as run-to-pass ratio.”

As for his own team: “Our defense is probably the strong side of our ball right now. Special teams have been doing a good job as well. Our offense was really young, so I think it took a little bit of time for our offense to continue to play with more consistency and so on.”

This will be the first-ever meeting of these two programs. Villanova in the playoffs for a second straight year. Last season, they advanced to the national quarterfinals.

Saturday’s game at Villanova Stadium kicks off at 2 p.m.
