2020 Flower Show: An escape to South of France … an escape from germs

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Final preparations are underway at the Pennsylvania Convention Center for this year's Philadelphia Flower Show. When the show opens this weekend, health and safety will be a top priority.
This year's show is an escape to the South of France. The official theme is "Riviera Holiday," celebrating the gardens and lifestyle of the Mediterranean.
The unofficial theme is safety and cleanliness, as fears intensify about the spread of germs.
There are no confirmed cases in the Philadlephia area of COVID-19, the illlness caused by the Wuhan coronavirus strain, and Chief of Shows Sam Lemhenny says he wants to keep it that way.
"Hand sanitizers and all that stuff are out," Lemhenny said. "We're hoping that people just think that the Flower Show is a great place to come and will have a good time here."
Kelvin Moore, Convention Center general manager, says they are taking every precaution they can during Flower Show week.
"Here in Philadelphia, we're doing things to make sure that we remind our staff both to keep themselves safe and our customers safe," Moore said. "All the basic hygiene precautions you take about extra washing and alcohol-based chemicals on your hands and stuff."
Staff and volunteers are busy putting the finishing touches on the displays before the show opens to the public Saturday morning. Be sure to check out Princess Grace's rose garden. It will take your breath away.
