1 dead, 2 injured in early-morning shootings blocks from Temple campus

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two shootings took place a block apart early Monday morning in North Philadelphia, leaving one woman dead and two men wounded.

The incidents took place around 3 a.m. on 16th Street, close to Temple University’s campus.

Police say two people were shot on Montgomery Avenue, where a pool of blood was still visible on the sidewalk hours later. One person was also shot on Cecil B. Moore Avenue.

One victim, a 15-year-old girl, was shot in the head, according to police. She was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was initially listed in critical condition but died within a few hours.

She was later identified as Sabria Gaymon.

As for the other victims, police said a 28-year-old man, who was shot in the arm, and a 20-year-old man, who was shot in the chest, are listed in stable condition at the hospital.

The shootings took place within a few blocks of the Liacouras Center and Temple’s Geasey Outdoor Field Complex. The university sent out an alert at 3:14 a.m. urging the school community to use caution and avoid the area.

There have been no arrests.

CORRECTION: Police initially identified the female victim as an 18-year-old. She was later properly identified as 15-year-old Sabria Gaymon.
