PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One man is dead, and two women are injured after separate shootings in North Philadelphia over the weekend.
The first shooting happened around 11 p.m. Saturday.
Police said a 20-year-old woman was shot near North Second Street and West Spencer Avenue in Olney. Investigators believe it was accidental. They said she was shot by her father’s girlfriend’s 22-year-old son, who was handling a gun he is permitted to carry. That gun has been surrendered to police. The 22-year-old faces reckless endangerment and assault charges.
A few hours later, around 1:30 a.m., police said a woman was shot near the intersection of North Smedley and West Westmoreland streets in Tioga. Officials said she was shot once in her upper left shoulder. She was taken to the hospital, where she’s listed in stable condition.
The woman told police the shooting occurred after she got into an argument with someone acting erratically on the street. Investigators said the shooter may live on that block.
Then, just before 4:30 a.m., police reported to 29th and West Clementine streets after receiving calls about gunshots in the area. Officers found a 42-year-old man on the street with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, leg, arm and hip. Police took him to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Investigators with the Homicide Unit have yet to establish a motive and have not made any arrests.
