Fire tears through Camden County apartment complex, displaces 100 people

Police say 5 people were injured, including a firefighter. One person is in critical condition.

NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — More than 100 people are displaced after a fire broke out in a Camden County apartment complex early Saturday morning.

Authorities say a call came in around 2:15 a.m. about a fire at the Autumn Ridge Apartment Complex on 1501 Little Gloucester Road. Upon arrival, police and firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the “C” building.

Eight fire engines from across South Jersey were on scene. It took nearly four hours to put out the flames.

More than 100 residents were evacuated from 40 apartment units.

Officials say five people were hurt, including a firefighter who sustained minor burns. One person is in critical condition. The other three are in stable condition.

All displaced residents are receiving help from the Red Cross and Office of Emergency Management.

The Camden County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
