PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 17-year-old is accused of fatally shooting a 12-year-old boy in West Oak Lane Saturday afternoon.
Police say 12-year-old Ethan Parker was shot once in the chest while filming a music video with his 15-year-old brother inside 17-year-old Marvin Playfair’s home on the 1500 block of East Pastorius Street.
"We are in possession of that video," said Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, "but there needs to be warrants to access that information.”
Homicide Prosecutor Bob Wainwright said Playfair had been known to play with the gun that was recovered at the scene.
“Based on the defendant’s familiarity with this gun, the fact that there is evidence that this is a gun he had had on previous occasions, there is evidence that this defendant had a history with not just this gun, but other guns… Also, there is evidence that the defendant had pointed guns at other people on prior occasions,” Wainwright said.
Parker was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died about 20 minutes later.
“If you point a gun at somebody and you pull the hammer back or you pull the trigger, whichever of those is what happened and the gun goes off, you have full reason to know that it is loaded, likely perhaps even loaded it yourself, that you are responsible for that murder and it is in fact a murder.”
Playfair is charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses.
Officials won’t say what led up to the shooting, but they don’t believe it was intentional.
