2 Philadelphia officers identified after shot, allegedly by Jefferson Hospital suspect

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Police have identified the officers who were shot early Monday, allegedly wounded by the Jefferson Hospital murder suspect.

Officer Arcenio Perez was shot in his right arm. He was at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center Friday night, where he was getting treatment.

The second, Officer Edwin Perez, was grazed by a bullet in the nose area. He was treated at Penn Presbyterian but has been released.

Prosecutors say that early Monday morning, Stacey Hayes shot and killed his co-worker Anrae James at Jefferson Hospital in Center City.

Later, police say they encountered Hayes in West Philly and exchanged gunfire. He allegedly shot both officers before being wounded and taken into custody.

Hayes has been charged with murder and gun-related offenses, as well as assaulting law enforcement.
