PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The MLB All-Star Game is coming to the City of Brotherly Love.
“The gathering here today in Dilworth Park — one of the most iconic locations in our beautiful city — is a perfect backdrop to the countdown to July 14, 2026,” said Phillies managing partner John Middleton outside City Hall on Friday.
As Philadelphia celebrates the nation’s 250th birthday next year, the 96th Midsummer Classic is one of the centerpiece events, said Phillies broadcaster and emcee Tom McCarthy.
“What an epic way to officially pass the torch to bring MLB’s crown jewel back to Philadelphia and make the Braves and Mets fans cheer Philadelphia!” McCarthy said.
Phillies fan David Szczepanski is looking forward to that.
“To have the whole country be able to see what it’s like to play in Philadelphia, what it’s like to be here. And I think it’s going to be a great environment,” Szczepanski said.
“...Just to be able to see some of the best players in baseball, I mean, that’s a dream come true. And they’re all coming to Citizens Bank Park.”
According to the MLB, this will be the fifth time the city will host the event.
Details about other All-Star events, including the Home Run Derby and Fan Fest, will be announced later.
