PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania state police said a 21-year-old man drowned Sunday while swimming in the Brandywine Creek.
According to investigators, Sergio Ayala-Vilchis, a citizen of Mexico, had gone swimming with a woman he met the night before at a club in Delaware. The pair entered the water near Chadds Ford, when all of a sudden Ayala-Vilchis began to panic and struggled against the current, police said.
The woman was able to get to the banks of the creek safely, but lost sight of him.
Middletown Township’s Engine 50 Search and Rescue team later found Ayala-Vilchis' body near where he and the woman had entered the creek.
