PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 3-year-old girl has died after she was shot in the eye in East Germantown on Saturday afternoon.
Police say it happened around 1:15 p.m. along the 500 block of East Chelten Avenue. The girl, identified by police as Kayden Barnes, suffered a single gunshot wound to the right eye.
She was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center and listed in extremely critical condition and later airlifted to Children's Hospital for further treatment.
What led to the incident is not yet known, but police say a man was taken into custody and a weapon has been recovered. The man has since been released.
Police say no charges are expected at this time in the case, but the investigation is ongoing.
