PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 4-year-old is dead after being hit by a tractor-trailer in Chester County.
Pennsylvania State Police told our newsgathering partners at NBC10 it happened around 12:30 p.m. Thursday on Route 41, just north of Highland Road.
They said the tractor-trailer was traveling north on Route 41 as the child was walking along the shoulder of the southbound lane.
The child apparently tried to cross the road and was struck by the tractor-trailer. The child was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but died not much later.
It is unclear if the child was with an adult. An investigation is underway.
