PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania health officials have confirmed the state's fifth measles-related death of the year in Lancaster County.
Officials have not identified the individual but say they were unvaccinated. The four other deaths were reported earlier this month, two of them also in Lancaster. All were non-vaccinated individuals.
Confirmed cases of the virus have also risen to 943 across 39 counties. That's up 40 cases since Monday.
State officials have urged people to get the MMR vaccine, which gives 97% lifetime protection against measles after two doses.
More than 53,000 doses have been administered statewide this month alone.
