PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are searching for six people wanted in connection with an aggravated assault in Center City earlier this month.
Officials say it happened just before 11 p.m. on June 12. The group approached two people as they were walking down the 1500 block of Chestnut Street and threw a fountain drink at them.
Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith said words were exchanged, but the suspects followed the two people for one block until they stopped outside the Ritz-Carlton hotel.
“And that's when one of the offenders began assaulting one of the complainants, and then the entire group joined in on the assault,” he said.
The victims were punched and kicked, and Smith said at one point, one of the suspects grabbed a window washer’s pole and swung it at one of the victims, striking them in the back of the head.
Both victims were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The person who was hit in the head needed staples to close a deep wound.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Central Detective Division at 215-686-3047/3048.
