PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A string of car vandalisms in a Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood has residents fed up.
Chuck Cameron says his son-in-law’s car was one of seven vehicles parked along Cowden Street in Bustleton on Dec. 29 that were damaged or broken into.
Cameron said it wasn’t until his wife came home from her nail appointment that morning that they noticed his windshield had been smashed and the passenger side window had been broken off.
Cameron then called the police and looked at his security camera footage from the previous night, which captured a man hopping out of a dark-colored minivan around 4 a.m., popping open his son-in-law’s trunk, and stealing a golf club.
“And then he just takes a golf club and then he just starts hitting the windshield after kicking his mirror off. It’s hard to imagine someone’s outside your house doing this,” Cameron said.
Police say the same golf club was used to damage six other cars on the street, but nothing was stolen from them.
“They’re brazen, they’re bold, and they don’t seem to care how much time they take because to do that much damage to the amount of vehicles that they did it to. They spent some time doing that,” Cameron said.
Some cars on Bonner Street, adjacent to Cowden, were also damaged.
Neighbors said a meeting is planned for Jan. 21. Anyone with additional information on the incidents is asked to call police at (215) 686-3153.
