PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities removed seven malnourished children from a Bucks County home who were living in filthy conditions, which included rats and a padlocked refrigerator.
Crystal Robertson, 37, and Shane Robertson, 47, lived in Green Top Trailer Park, on the 600 block of Roseann Lane in West Rockhill Township, with their children, who range between the ages of 4 and 16.
Police responded to a trespassing complaint on April 23 and later found the deplorable conditions of the home.
The mother told officers with the Pennridge Regional Police Department that the padlock on the fridge was to prevent the children from eating the food, as they did not have enough money.
Police found feces inside, as well as rats, dogs and snakes kept throughout the house.
Bucks County Children and Youth took the seven kids into protective custody. All of them had been suffering from malnutrition. Two had to shave their heads due to severe matting; one had maggots.
Police said none of the seven children had attended school, and they lacked basic knowledge. Several of them didn’t know their birthdays.
Crystal and Shane Robertson are each charged with seven felony counts of endangering the welfare of children. They were released on bail.
