ABINGTON, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The superintendent of the Abington School District addressed safety concerns at the high school during Tuesday night’s board meeting, after officials said a man accused of raping a student was able to get into the building multiple times earlier this year.
Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher started the school board meeting by stating there would be an independent third-party investigation. Officials want a deeper dive into what exactly went wrong, security-wise, at Abington Senior High School.
“There are numerous unresolved questions about this man’s presence in the high school, as well as where and when he initially encountered the victim,” Fecher said. “We are reviewing all of our security protocols and procedures and will be working with the Montgomery County Department of School Safety to determine whether additional security measures can be put in place.”
The man Fecher referred to is 25-year-old Raheem Grange-Allen, of Philadelphia, who was arrested last week.
According to the criminal complaint, the 14-year-old victim told police she first met Grange-Allen inside Abington Senior High School in March; he told her he was a student. He started texting her and messaging her on social media, at times asking her for nude photos and videos, police said.
The victim said she saw him or let him into the school three or four times, and, in one instance, she said he tried to get her to perform a sex act behind a stairwell.
Police said Grange-Allen raped the victim in her home on March 27.
Grange-Allen is facing a long list of charges, including rape and sexual assault. He remains behind bars on $250,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2.
