PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man arrested for making violent threats against 20 Pennsylvania Democrats faces arraignment next month, after passing up his right to a hearing on Thursday.
Adam Berryhill, 42, of Lebanon, waived his preliminary hearing on charges of making terroristic threats.
Authorities said Berryhill made social media threats against 20 Democratic lawmakers, including Philadelphia state representatives Jordan Harris, Malcolm Kenyatta and Rick Krajewski.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, state police allege Berryhill posted on X, calling the lawmakers "communist influencers," and that Berryhill posted that when his legal filings against them fail, he would "start shootings."
The lawmakers said they weren't immediately notified of the threats. Gov. Josh Shapiro issued a statement Wednesday night saying it's clear a better process is necessary to alert lawmakers of threats. He didn't outline what it is, but Shapiro said Pennsylvania State Police have a new process to notify members of the General Assembly of political threats.
“It is on all of us to combat hate speech and political violence, and I call on all of my fellow Pennsylvanians and fellow leaders to stand up against this dangerous rising tide of violence we are seeing across our country,” Shapiro said.
Berryhill is next due in Lebanon County Court for arraignment on June 11.
