PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Senators Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Marco Rubio of Florida, a Democrat and a Republican, have written a joint letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos demanding answers about a contract with a controversial Chinese company.
Amazon allegedly entered into a contract with Dahua Technology for cameras worth $10 million. The company is accused of providing the hardware and software for facial recognition that is reportedly being used to identify and track Uyghur Muslims for the Chinese government.
International investigators say there’s mounting evidence of genocide and numerous human rights violations against the Uyghur population in China.
The senators want to know what knowledge Bezos had prior to entering into the deal with a company on the U.S. Department of Commerce naughty list.
