PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — After spending 33 years on Philadelphia sports radio and about half a century in the media, former WIP Morning Show host Angelo Cataldi is turning a new page.
Cataldi spent the last nine months writing his memoir “Loud: How a Shy Nerd Came to Philadelphia and Turned up the Volume in the Most Passionate Sports City in America,” which is set to release Tuesday.
It covers a wide range of topics — from personal struggles and triumphs, to his time in newspapers and then in radio that made him a household name. It goes in depth into the history of his highly successful morning talk show, including recollections of feuds, treasured guests, Wing Bowl, behind the scenes happenings and a contract dispute that nearly ended his time on WIP about a decade or so before he finally turned off the mic on Feb. 17, 2023.
But most of all, it’s a tribute to Philadelphia sports fans — the fan base he credits for keeping him around from the days of the Eagles gang green defense to the disappointing loss of Super Bowl LVII.
“I railed for most of the 33 years on how lazy the national media was,” Cataldi told KYW Newsradio. “That is, always wanted to harp on any incident that happened at a Philadelphia sports event, but they happened all over the country and it never got the same amount of attention … These people jump in with both feet. They care. They’re just as passionate in positive enterprises as they are in negative ones, and that’s never told.”
