PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The first-ever Arts Montco Week kicks off Friday in Montgomery County.
The event includes over 200 venues that feature activities ranging from plays to scarecrow-making workshops.
"We're really rolling the red carpet out, not only for visitors to come and experience arts and culture, but also for the venues in Montgomery County," said Bryan Buttler, spokesperson for Arts Montco.
"This initiative is really welcoming back our patrons, welcoming back to the community and really shining the spotlight on these amazing diverse galleries, theaters, experiences all throughout the county."
He said that arts and culture scene in Montgomery County typically infuses nine figures of money into the local economy.
"Arts and culture is normally a $100 million annual revenue driver," Buttler detailed.
"It creates hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs every year in Montgomery County and obviously, throughout the pandemic, arts and culture have been hit pretty hard."
Visit Valley Forge, which is organizing the event, is not charging anything for these venues to participate in this.
"Each venue establishes their own price. A lot of the events are free, and there's some that just charge a small admission fee," said Buttler.
Montgomery officials strongly suggest that attendees wear masks, and Buttler recommends attendees check each venue's masking rules.
Arts Montco Week runs through Sept. 26. More information is available online.
