PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Eight people were injured after a mass shooting at a South Philadelphia nightclub early Saturday.

Police were notified of a shooting at the 7 Elements bar on 11th Street and Washington Avenue just before 4 a.m. When they arrived, the door was locked, and there was a trail of blood outside the establishment. The fire department helped them gain entry.

Police later learned that an argument escalated into a knife fight on the balcony.

As security tried to break up the fight, shots were fired. Patrons attempted to get away. Police say a security guard on duty admitted to discharging a gun.

Eight people, including two security guards, had been shot, ranging in age from 25 to 43. Police took four to a nearby hospital. The other four arrived by private vehicles. All are listed in stable condition. Police initially reported 11 people were shot.

City officials revoked the nightclub's license following the shooting.

“In this case, one of our first actions was to work directly with L&I to immediately revoke the business’ operating license for violations,” said Chief Public Safety Director Adam Geer.

As of now, no one has been arrested. Police say they will check nearby surveillance cameras for additional information.
