NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A tentative deal was reached Friday between IBEW Local 210 and Atlantic City Electric, halting the month-long work stoppage for about 400 union members.
"I'm proud of them, how strong they stood, and the amount of solidarity that was shown throughout this whole thing was really amazing,” said Zach Story, business manager with the union.
The contract for A.C. Electric’s utility workers, electricians, and dispatchers expired on Nov. 2. Three days later, workers went on strike asking for better retirement security and pensions, as well as additional money for members who worked through the pandemic.
The new contract includes a higher wage and additional time off.
"We didn't get everything we wanted and we didn't expect that, but we did make some changes,” Story said.
Atlantic City Electric said they feel an equitable and competitive agreement that's fair for employees and customers was reached and they look forward to welcoming back labor union employees.
Members will vote to ratify the new contract in the coming days.
