NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A federal audit of Atlantic City Electric found instances of overbilling and improper tax write-offs from 2021 to 2025.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission made nearly two dozen recommendations after an audit of Atlantic City Electric found five areas of noncompliance, with action needed on two.
The company was found to have made improper tax write-offs for equipment and misinterpreted federal tax law. Regarding overbilling listed in the report, Cynthia Holland with Atlantic City Electric said no amount was listed, and no customers were identified for overbilling.
“This audit report doesn’t speak about residential customers or direct customer bill impacts. It’s focused on transmission rates and FERC accounting standards,” Holland said.
Holland said there were no violations of federal tax law, and it is fully complying with all of the report’s recommendations.
This comes as New Jersey residents have seen sharp increases in utility bills over the last few years. Atlantic City Electric said it remains focused on delivering safe, reliable energy and helping customers manage their bills through assistance programs and payment options.
