4-month-old killed in crash following police pursuit in Wilmington

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 4-month-old boy was killed in a crash following a police pursuit early Tuesday morning in Wilmington, Delaware, police said.

According to authorities, it started with a traffic stop on I-95 at 1:16 a.m. As officers approached the vehicle, it sped off, taking the Marsh Road exit and continuing to Edgemoor Road, where it ran off the road and crashed.

The infant, who was not in a car seat, was killed. He was identified as Maurice Brown Jr.

The 33-year-old driver, who police said was wanted for various offenses, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A 32-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were also in the car. They were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police have not released the names of the others involved. Charges against the driver in connection with the pursuit and the baby’s death are pending.
